One of the jewels of Budapest is the heritage-protected ice rink Városliget.
The institution is the oldest and largest outdoor ice rink in Europe – unbelievable but it opened in 1870 and has been a symbol of winter activity and entertainment in the capital for almost 150 years.
It offers a unique experience in Central Europe, to enjoy the joy of movement in the middle of a cosmopolitan city in the shade of magnificent monuments and centuries-old trees in a rich cultural environment.
As part of the reconstruction of the ice rink and the renovation of the heritage-protected building, the ice rink and the reception building were renewed and expanded.
Between November 2012 and June 2015, we participated in the renovation of the facility in various specialist areas:
Phase 1: We carried out the reconstruction work of the building complex, the interior design and restoration work.
Phase 2: Low-voltage installation works were carried out on the building complex (implementation of an IT system, a surveillance system with a camera network, a keycard entry system, a fire alarm system, an intercom, an audiovisual system).
Phase 3: We have expanded the capacity of the cooling system for an enlarged ice surface. It was a serious professional challenge that the necessary cooling system required a structure of above-average size and that the refrigeration systems in the renovated machine room had to be replaced (installation of high-performance heat exchangers and tanks), so that at the same time a substantial part of the machine room had to remain untouched.
